Building connection, participation, and collective action in communities

Through Soulgen, we’ve had the privilege of working alongside young people, councils, grassroots organisations, schools, and communities across NSW and beyond – helping co-create spaces where people feel connected, valued, and able to shape positive change together.

Over the years, this work has included:

– youth summits and leadership programs
– place-based community development initiatives
– social cohesion and engagement projects
– Community of Practice gatherings
– collaborative work with councils, schools, and organisations
– creative facilitation, storytelling, and participation processes

But some of the most meaningful moments haven’t come from strategies or reports alone.

They’ve come from watching people and communities rediscover the strengths already present around them.

A young person stepping into leadership.
Neighbours beginning to trust one another again.
Community members realising their voice matters.
Different organisations moving beyond silos and genuinely collaborating.

More and more, we’ve been reflecting on something:

This work can’t – and shouldn’t – sit with one person or organisation alone.

A growing network of community builders

Soulgen is now beginning to build a wider network of passionate community builders, facilitators, youth workers, artists, connectors, and place-based practitioners across Australia who resonate with strengths-based and community-led approaches.

People who genuinely care about:

– participation and belonging
– youth leadership and wellbeing
– place-based community development
– storytelling and creative engagement
– activating community strengths and relationships
– collaboration for positive change
– creating communities where people feel they matter

What may emerge from this network

Over time, this may evolve into:

– training and learning opportunities
– Community of Practice gatherings
– collaborative projects and facilitation pathways
– opportunities to support engagement and activation work in different regions
– access to Soulgen tools and experiences such as Camp Venture
– a growing network of practitioners supporting one another across communities

Approaches we may explore together

– Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD)
– place-based community development
– asset mapping
– World Café
– Open Space Technology
– storytelling and photovoice
– circles and dialogue practices
– creative and experiential facilitation
– game-based and participatory experiences

Expression of Interest

At this stage, we’re looking to connect with people who feel drawn to this kind of work and way of being.

This isn’t about creating a corporate franchise or generic facilitation model.

It’s about building a values-aligned community of people who believe communities already hold many of the gifts, wisdom, creativity, and relationships needed for change – and who want to help bring that to life in meaningful and practical ways.

If this resonates with you, we’d love to hear from you:

Express your Interest

You may wish to share:

– your location
– current role or interests
– what resonates with you about this vision
– any experience in community, youth, facilitation, arts, engagement, or leadership work

We look forward to seeing what may emerge from this over the coming months.
