Our process

Soulgen Theory of Change
Soulgen Theory of Change

Change starts with what’s already there

We don’t arrive with a ready-made solution.

Every organisation, community and place has its own people, relationships, knowledge, stories, strengths and possibilities. Our role is to help uncover and connect them – creating the conditions for people to imagine, design and act together.

Our process is relational, strengths-based and participatory. Depending on the project and context, we draw on Asset & Place-Based Community Development, appreciative inquiry, co-design, storytelling, experiential facilitation, trauma informed practice, world cafe, creative engagement, asset mapping and prototyping.

The methods change.

The principle remains: work with people, not to or for them.

At the core of successful community is collaboration. Our goal is to co-design experiences which make visible your values, knowledge, connections and potential. Our strength is in balancing the needs and nurturing the strengths and resources of your community.

Building the Fire

Discover what’s strong and what matters.

We begin by listening and building relationships.

Together, we explore the people, strengths, assets, stories and lived experiences already present, while developing a shared understanding of the opportunities and challenges that matter.

This might involve conversations, interviews, asset mapping, community engagement, creative discovery, research or simply spending time in the place.

The aim isn’t just to gather information. It’s to build trust, uncover possibility and invite people into the process from the beginning

Lighting the Campfire

Bring people together to imagine and create.

This is where connection becomes possibility.

We create participatory spaces where people can share perspectives, connect ideas and assets, explore possibilities and co-design what might happen next.

Depending on the context, that could involve workshops, community conversations, Open Space, storytelling, theatre, games, prototyping or other creative and experiential approaches.

Rather than designing the answer ourselves, we create the conditions for collective intelligence, creativity and ownership to emerge.

Keeping the Fire Burning

Turn ideas into action and strengthen what remains.

A successful project shouldn’t depend on Soulgen staying forever.

We help translate ideas into practical action – whether that’s a strategy, initiative, prototype, network, community-led project or new way of working.

Along the way, we strengthen relationships, local leadership, partnerships and capability so that people are better equipped to continue the work themselves.

Because the real measure of our contribution isn’t only what happens while we’re there.

It’s what people can keep creating together after we leave.

No two journeys look the same

Sometimes you need a single facilitated workshop.

Sometimes it’s a co-design process, strategy or community engagement project.

And sometimes we walk alongside a community or organisation over months, moving between discovery, experimentation, action and reflection as the work evolves.

So while these three stages describe how we think, our process isn’t linear or one-size-fits-all. We adapt it to your people, place, purpose and context.

Have something you want to bring to life?

Let’s explore what might be possible together.
